Synopsis

Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow is a collection of humorous essays in which Jerome K. Jerome muses on everyday topics such as love, shyness, pets, babies, food, and the weather. Rather than following a continuous plot, each essay turns an ordinary subject into an amusing reflection. Jerome draws comedy from familiar habits and foibles, using a conversational voice, gentle irony, and playful exaggeration. It’s a light, witty read built around everyday life.

Jerome K. Jerome
Jerome K. Jerome (1859–1927) was an English writer, humorist, and playwright. Born in Walsall, he worked in several jobs—including as an actor and journalist—before establishing himself as a successful author. He wrote novels, plays, essays, and short stories, but is best known for Three Men in a Boat (1889), inspired by a Thames boating trip. The book’s comic observations and eccentric companions made it an enduring favorite. Jerome continued writing throughout his life, including a sequel, Three Men on the Bummel. His lively, conversational humor helped establish him as one of the best-loved comic writers of his time. See all books →
