In this comic travelogue, Twain recounts a 1867 voyage with a group of American travelers through Europe and the Holy Land. Along the way, he describes their adventures, the places they visit, and the gap between travelers’ expectations and what they actually encounter. The book was published in 1869. Twain draws comedy from travel mishaps, tourist habits, and his own reactions to unfamiliar sights. His lively storytelling and wry commentary make it an entertaining read.
