Synopsis

When easygoing Lord Dawlish unexpectedly inherits a fortune, he feels the money should have gone to the late millionaire’s niece, Elizabeth Boyd. He travels to America hoping to share it with her, but his attempt to do the right thing leads to romantic misunderstandings and comic complications. The novel was published in 1916. The comedy comes from Bill’s good intentions colliding with awkward circumstances, mistaken assumptions, and matters of the heart. Wodehouse’s light touch and lively dialogue make it a clean, amusing read.
